Are the Giants a “Dark Horse” Super Bowl Team?

Colin Cowherd, the host of FOX Sports 1’s noontime talkfest, “The Herd With Colin Cowherd,” is warning NFL fans that the New York Giants are a “dark horse” Super Bowl candidate this season.

In a back-and-forth exchange with his producer, John Goulet, after reporting the latest on wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., Cowherd expounded on the Giants’ graces claiming their 3-13 finish in 2017 was an aberration.

Goulet: “The fixed the offensive line, Odell’s back healthy and they added Saquon Barkley, home-run hitting running back who can catch passes…”

Cowherd: “And by the way they have four elite players on defense: Snacks Harrison, Ogletree the linebacker, Janoris Jenkins is a great corner and Landon Collins the safety. I said this last year, and everybody rolled their eyes, they are a dark horse Super Bowl team. ”

Goulet: “So I was going to ask you – how far could they go?”

Cowherd: “No, listen. Everybody laughed at me…”

Goulet: “They were 11-5 two years ago.”

Cowherd: “Yeah, 11-5 two years ago. I get Odell Beckham back, Nate Solder left tackle…they probably drafted the second-best offensive lineman in the college draft – the kid from UTEP [Will Hernandez]. People raved about him. My NFL guys raved about him, I never saw him play. They got Saquon Barkley.

“Listen – and they got Pat Shurmur, who a lot of people think is the Shanahan-Sean McVay of the hires this year. Their only issue is the division. It’s brutal. I think Alex Smith makes Washington better. Philadelphia is still great and I think Dallas has a puncher’s chance to go far in the playoffs, so ….New York was 11-5 two years ago. Last year was just a Ben McAdoo meltdown. That’s over. “

The hype continues to build for the 2018 New York Giants. Now all they have to do is live up to it.

But not everyone is buying into the Giants being a “worst to first” team. CBS Sports has them listed as a 50-1 longshot to win Super Bowl XLIII and Covers.com also puts them at +5000. Betfirm.com gives Big Blue a 1.85% chance of hoisting the Lombardi trophy this year. Keep in mind the smart money usually comes in late, so get your bets in now while the odds are still high.
