The Giant Insider Daily for Dec 8: On to Washington

The Giants Guys is now The Giant Insider Online and we have also teamed up with the Big Blue Wrecking  Crew (@NYGFansOnline), a fan message board. There will be more annexations and consolidations in the future as we attempt to converge several independent media sources onto one central site.

Here’s what’s on tap for Saturday, December 8:

The Giants will travel down to Washington today for their NFC East showdown with their longtime rivals, the Washington Redskins.

Injury Update

The Giants have no players listed as OUT or DOUBTFUL this week but do have two players designated with the QUESTIONABLE tag: LB Tae Davis (ankle) and LB B.J. Goodson (neck/foot).

On Friday, Davis and Goodson were limited at practice as was WR Odell Beckham, Jr., who has a quad issue.

“Odell has got a bruised quad, so we just gave him a little time,” said head coach Pat Shurmur. “He’s going to be fine. …He’s playing. He’s got a quad bruise. It’s been lingering. Remember the last play of the game against Philly, where he got leg whipped?”

LB Lorenzo Carter (hip), Evan Engram (hamstring) and WR Sterling Shepard (ribs) all practiced in full and are expected to play in D.C. this weekend.

What’s shaking….

The Giants began the week 1.5-point underdogs and are currently 3.5-point favorites. The Redskins bevy of injuries is the likely cause. They’ve lost three straight games and four of their last five. They have 20 player on IR and it looks like they might be putting a few more on that list before long. This week, Washington will start ex-Jet Mark Sanchez at quarterback. Sanchez last took a snap in a regular-season NFL game on Jan 1, 2017 as a member of the Dallas Cowboys.

Giants rookie QB Kyle Lauletta will again be the backup this week in Washington, according to Pat Shurmur. Alex Tanney will be inactive again.

Hill can set rookie sack record….

Rookie defensive lineman B.J. Hill leads the Giants in sacks this season with five. Lawrence Taylor holds the unofficial franchise sack record for rookies with 9.5 in 1981. The problem there is that sacks were not an official NFL stat until 1982, so Hill is technically tied for the official franchise lead with Cornelius Griffin (2000) and Andy Headen (1983). Last week against the Bears, Hill – third round pick out of N.C. State this past spring – recorded three sacks. He’ll need to double his season total to surpass L.T. but only needs one to set a new official team record. Hill will also be the first rookie to lead the Giants in sacks.

“It feels pretty good, I’m not going to lie, especially three in one game,” said Hill about sacking the quarterback. “It was an amazing feeling, especially when you got the guys behind you celebrating with you, and congratulating you…I just want to help the team win. That’s what it comes down to. I just want to help the team win, just playing two, three, 20 snaps, it doesn’t matter, I just want to help the team win.”
