Wednesday Roundup: Eli’s last game? Odell, Ogletree sit again
- Updated: December 26, 2018

The New York Giants (5-10) began preparations on Wednesday for their season finale versus the NFC East champion Dallas Cowboys (9-6) this Sunday at MetLife Stadium. Dallas has opened as a 6.5-point favorite. The Over/Under is currently 42.5.
Wednesday Injury Report
Did Not Participate in Practice: WR Odell Beckham Jr. (Quad), DL Mario Edwards (Calf), TE Rhett Ellison (Concussion), LB Alec Ogletree Concussion), WR Russell Shepard (Ankle) Limited Participation in Practice: LB B.J. Goodson (Foot), C Spencer Pulley (Calf), WR Sterling Shepard (Hip) Full Participation in Practice: DL Kerry Wynn (Thumb)
“There’s a chance. We’ll just have to see where they’re at. They’re both feeling better than they did last week, we’ll just have to see,” said head coach Pat Shurmur of Beckham and Ogletree’s status this week.
“Odell will be out there, he’s not going to take part in practice – he’s been out there, but it won’t be much different than what he did last week. And then Ogletree won’t be out there.”
Beckham has missed three consecutive weeks with a bruised/pulled quad. Ogletree sustained a concussion two weeks ago versus the Tennessee Titans.
News
There were suggestions that this week’s game could be QB Eli Manning’s last in a Giant uniform. He has one year remaining on his contract but the Giants can save $17 million towards the salary cap if they cut ties with him after this season.
“Eli’s our starter, Eli gives us the best chance to win, and he’s going to play on Sunday. That’s where we’re at. I think when the game is over and we start talking in depth about what’s going to happen moving forward, that’s when you worry about it. I’m not worried about that. Again, you’re talking to the coach. I’m worried about the game,” said Shurmur. “We’ll have longer conversations with all the players on Monday to talk about what our expectations are moving forward. I’m ready for that. We’ve done this long enough where there’s sort of a blueprint for that. And there’s certain things I expect to see from the younger players, and then I just expect that they’re going to be professional about what they do with their time and take it from there. I have a more detailed blueprint of where it’s going to go, I have an idea of what January, February, March needs to look like, but that’s not for anybody to know yet until after we play the next game.”
“No, just worried about this game, and finishing this season, and going out there and playing hard,” replied Manning when asked if this could be his last game. “I view it as the last game of this season, and that’s it.”
Eli said he has had no conversations with management about his future with the club as well as any contract extension or pay cut.
Wide receiver Sterling Shepard won the 2018 Good Guy Award, given to the most cooperative player interacting with the media.
Sterling Shepard has been named the winner of the 18th annual George Young Good Guy Award, as voted on by the Giants' chapter of the @PFWAwriters, for his outstanding and consistent cooperation with the media this year.
